Farmers' markets are a great place to purchase fresh, healthy, and delicious food directly from the source! Saturday, August 26 is the last weekend of the Shreveport Farmers' Market, so it’s the perfect time to go check it out and load up on fresh items grown and raised right here in the 318. To make it a little bit more fun, we're announcing a Farmers' Market Challenge at Great Raft Brewing.
Shop. Cook. Share. Cultivate the 318!
It's easy (and free) to participate, and open to everyone. Buy lots of fresh, local ingredients, including hopefully at least one item from the Farmer's Market. Then, prepare a special dish to share with locals and judges at Great Raft Brewing on Tuesday, August 29. Samples of the dishes will be shared with the public and our panel of judges, including local chef Eleazar Mondragon, Slow Food North LA Chairwoman Angie White, local foodie and food/beverage writer Chris Jay, and Shreveport Farmers' Market Manager Noma Fowler-Sandlin.
Anyone can participate. We just ask that you register by 5 pm on Saturday, August 26 so we can set up our space accordingly. Anyone can attend. We're all ages and you don't have to submit a dish to enjoy the event.
Dishes can be entered into the following categories:
- Sides / Appetizers
Dishes will be scored based on: taste, originality, incorporation of local ingredients and presentation. Those submitting a dish should arrive to Great Raft Brewing around 5 pm to set up and plate. Judging will start at 6 pm. Utensils and plates for guests will be provided. Please bring your dish, serving utensils and list of ingredients / location purchased. An entry form will be available soon, where you will list the ingredients used and where you purchased them.
Winners will be announced at 8 pm. Prizes will be awarded for 1st place in each category, people’s choice, and one overall winner will be chosen as well.
